DescriptionThe Bay of Bengal obtain increased international attention due to the changes in its oceanographic and ecosystem dynamics as well as the exploitation of its natural resources that opens up for new challenges. Adequate scientific information to understand various processes with fine resolution both in coastal and deep-sea regions and trained manpower in physical, chemical and geological oceanography will require for managing marine resources sustainably and to cope with climate change induced hazards and vulnerability in the region particularly in context of Bangladesh. The NABIC International Winter School Coastal and ocean processes in the Bay of Bengal in a changing climate and their impacts on society will have a multi and cross-disciplinary thematic approach to meet the challenges and opportunities in the Bay of Bengal region. The school aims to bring together interdisciplinary group of graduate students (MSc and PhD) with background and/or interest in ocean dynamics, climate impacts and socio-political dimensions of climate change. Through hands-on activities, participants will explore coastal and ocean processes in the Bay of Bengal in a changing climate, and the emerging societal implications of climate change and adaptation in the coastal belt of the bay. Scientists and experts from Bangladesh, India, Netherlands and Norway will deliver lectures on the scientific topics according to the NABIC Winter School 2014 Program. There will lectures and interactive participatory sessions. The students will work in groups and make a synthesis of the lectures and other information.
